We first saw a workshop production of Snapshots: a Musical Scrapbook several years ago at a small theatre in the Seattle suburbs. Stephen Schwartz was attending, and had invited us to a performance. Afterwards, we had dinner with him and shared our impressions of the show. We thought it was a beautiful melding of his music with a story that had resonance for contemporary theatregoers. It seemed like an ideal show for a Vancouver audience, and we began to think of ways to mount a production here.
It took a few years for our production plan to become a reality, but in 2014, we were able to attract an outstanding cast and artistic team, no doubt because of the rewarding nature of the material, both musically and dramatically. The “Snapshots Collective” was formed, and the Canadian premiere of Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook enjoyed a hugely successful run at Studio 1398 in the Fall of 2014. Audiences and critics fell in love with the multi-layered storytelling, the music and the staging, and clamoured for more.
We are thrilled to be back and are excited to bring the 2015 production of Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook to Vancouver’s North Shore. Once again, the exquisite combination of Schwartz’ music and the story’s compelling themes attracted a stellar group of professional artists. Not only do we welcome back some of our original cast and artistic team members, but we are delighted to welcome some new members to our cast and creative teams as well. It has been a joy to work with such a committed group.
We would like to thank our collaborators on this project, both on stage and less visible, who have devoted many hours to making this production possible.
We hope you enjoy the show as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you!
